Our Analysis, Comparisons & Test Results

performance comparison

The EVERLIT 72 hour 2 person Survival Bag was specifically put into the mix because we wanted to compare the design and durability with the others that weren’t pre-made.  It seems as if you might have to give up some performance somewhere because it’s a premade bag.

To our surprise we found that this bag held up pretty well in comparison to the others, with a few minor downfalls.  The material is a little thinner than something like the 5.11 Tactical RUSH72 bag of course, but we didn’t expect it to measure up with such a superior bag as the 5.11 Tactical bag.

When you buy a pre-made survival kit, your number one reason for doing so is because you want to make sure that you have everything you need to survive for the next 72 hours, not necessarily for finding the highest-quality material in a bag. With that said, the EVERLIT Complete Bug Out Bag (72 hours for 2 people) is a one of our favorites in its class, and ranked well in comparison to the others.

Comfort And Fit

When it comes to comfort and fit, we gave this bag an 8.  At almost 20 pounds, this pack fit comfortably on the back, and we didn’t have any problems with buckles poking us or anything of that sort.

This bag fits like any other standard backpack, but because of the situation in which it’s designed to be used for, there seems to be more stability than I would have guessed when we first pulled the bag out of the box.

It’s got decent compression straps, enough padding to make it as comfortable as possible, and there’s even nice mesh padding on the back.   Padding can make or break a pack like this, but we were pleasantly surprised at what it offered for a pre-made survival pack.

We had no problem with this bag when we carried it completely full of all of its contents.  Very easy to handle for an adult male, and the perfect size for an adult female.

Durability

When it comes to bug out bags, there are a ton of people who prefer the tactical-style bags to any other.  The EVERLIT survival bug out bag is a tactical bag that has everything you want when it comes to durability including strong zippers, well put together pockets and stitching, and strong buckles that won’t break as easily.

Overall, we were impressed with how well this EVERLIT Complete 72 Hour Bug Out Bag (for 2 people) held up when messing around with it. When we talk about durability, we primarily are talking about the material and the design of the bag.  Since this bag is made of nylon, the durability was measured by denier. In this case, the bag is made of 600 denier, helping to make it water and tear-resistant.

You have to be careful when first looking at the material types of any bug out bag you may be considering because denier doesn’t necessarily measure the strength and ruggedness as much as it measures the individual yarn strands and how it is woven together.

Most of the bags that we looked at were made from 600D nylon, which is where we would like to see this minimum threshold. With that said, we’ve learned through this process that having a higher denair number seems to give the bag a higher level of durability. Higher denier fabrics will also weigh a little more, which gives the bag more strength.

Zippers, buckles, and stitching

The EVERLIT Complete 72 Hour Bug Out Bag (for 2 people) had no problem when it came to zippers, buckles and stitching.

We would have liked to see YKK zippers on this bag, but maybe these area few of the things that had to be given up in order to keep the price tag affordable.

Only time will tell how these zippers and buckles perform over time, but with our testers, they seemed to have no problem and gave this bag a 7.  Again, it would have received higher marks if the zippers were YKK zippers, but they seemed to be thick enough to withstand wear and tear.

Storage Design (Pockets, MOLLE)

When it came to storage design, the EVERLIT Complete 72 Hour Bug Out Bag (for 2 people) came with a lot of extra pockets on the inside and storage room.  The bag is equivalent to the standard “MOLLE pack” so that you can add attachments and more gear to this back than what’s inside.

There are several empty pockets in this bag and one of the great things we liked about this bag is there a lot of extra space, even after the pack is full.  You can stuff a shirt, a pair of pants, and some extra socks for example.   We fit a 2L water bladder in the back pocket of this pack, which is good to have just in case you run out of the water that comes with the pack.

You can always change out the pre-made items if you don’t like the quality as well.  Everything is very high quality, and we were impressed with most of it.  Because of the extra space, I would personally add a change of clothes and maybe a better flashlight.

You will enjoy the space as much as we did and we are sure you’ll find it to be ample to fit all of the gear you need.

Water Resistance

The EVERLIT Complete 72 Hour Bug Out Bag (for 2 people), like most bags, is water-resistant, but definitely not waterproof.   There is different terminology when it comes to talking about whether or not gear will soak up water when wet, especially if you’re in a climate where there is snow.

You’ve got water-resistant, water repellent, and waterproof.  Typically the density of the fabric is what causes the material to be water-resistant.  The more dense a fabric is, the longer it will take for water to seep in.  Most of the bug out bags we look at, as mentioned above, are made from various degrees of nylon and polyester, which are all ultimately labeled as “water-resistant.”  The EVERLIT Complete bug out bag is no different.

I always recommend that if you want to secure your bag a little more, you can always coat it with some waterproof spray and a seem sealer.  You will want to make sure you get rid of any dirt or particles before you do this, which is why it makes it easiest to use the water-resistant spray right after you pull your bag out of the box.

Our Final Verdict

The EVERLIT Complete 72 Hour Bug Out Bag (for 2 people) is one of the best pre-made bug out bags on the market.  It’s durable, lightweight, comes with high-quality food items, and has plenty of space for extra gear.  I always recommend this bag to beginners and folks who don’t want to spend the hassle of putting gear and food items together on their own.

Just remember that with these pre-made bug out bags, you are going to need to rotate the food items after 5 years.  Most of the food items in this survival kit are things like emergency ration bars and survival water packets, which will need to be changed out.

I would also mention that you could add other food items like MREs (5 year shelf life) and even some single freeze-dried food items if you don’t want to mess around with rotating food.

In the end, we highly recommend the EVERLIT Complete 72 Hour Bug Out Bag (for 2 people) after our analysis.

Final Thoughts

The EVERLIT Complete 72 Hour Bug Out Bag (for 2 people) can be thrown anywhere in your house and left for up to 5 years before you have to start thinking of it again.  Make sure you go through the bag when you get it and note any items that you think you would like to add and that can be beneficial for your bug out plan.

Just because you buy a pre-made bug out bag, doesn’t mean it’s going to have everything in it that you want.  With the extra space in this bag, you’ll have room to add larger items such as a folding survival saw.
